🗓️ Medicare’s Annual Enrollment Period (AEP)
October 15 – December 7
Each year, you have the opportunity to review your Medicare plan and make important changes for the next year. During this time, you can:
- Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan or go back to Original Medicare
• Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
• Enroll in, drop, or change your Part D Prescription Drug Plan
Even if you’re satisfied with your current plan, reviewing it each year is essential. Plan costs, networks, and prescription coverage can change annually — and so can your health needs.

🩺 Understanding Your Georgia Medicare Options
Original Medicare (Parts A & B)
Original Medicare, managed by the federal government, includes:
- Part A (Hospital Insurance): Covers hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice care, and limited home health services.
• Part B (Medical Insurance): Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and durable medical equipment.
While Original Medicare offers broad coverage, it does not include prescription drugs, dental, vision, or hearing care — and there’s no limit on out-of-pocket expenses.
Medigap (Medicare Supplement)
Medigap plans help cover costs that Original Medicare doesn’t — like copays, coinsurance, and deductibles.
These standardized plans (such as Plan G or Plan N) allow you to visit any doctor or hospital nationwide that accepts Medicare.
If you prefer flexibility, predictable costs, and freedom from network restrictions, a Medigap plan may be the best fit for you.
Medicare Advantage (Part C)
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. These plans bundle your Part A and Part B benefits and often include:
- Prescription drug coverage (Part D)
• Extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, transportation, fitness, and wellness programs
Many Georgians choose Medicare Advantage for its convenience and cost-saving features. Availability and benefits differ by county and ZIP code, so comparing plans yearly is essential.
Prescription Drug Plans (Part D)
Part D plans help lower the cost of your prescription medications.
Each plan has its own formulary (list of covered drugs), pharmacy network, and tier system that affects copays.
Reviewing your plan each year ensures that your medications remain covered at the lowest possible cost.
